How to get the most out of your uni room!

We know that uni rooms in the UK can be pretty small and you’re probably already sick of the lack of space (especially storage)! Here are our top ten tips on how to make the most out of your uni room:

Optimise vertical space

  • Use over-the-door hooks and hangers for coats and bags.

  • Install adhesive shelves or stackable organisers to maximise wall space for books, decorations or toiletries.

Use multi-functional furniture

  • Invest in storage ottomans or foldable furniture that doubles as seating and storage.

  • Use under-bed storage boxes for clothes or extra bedding.

Smart desk setups for the win

  • Use a desk organiser or monitor riser to keep study essentials tidy and to increase your workspace.

  • Use clip-on desk lamps with USB ports for convenience.

Command strips are your best friend

  • Use command hooks and strips to hang posters, fairy lights and photos without damaging your walls.

  • Create a cosy vibe with tapestries and fabric wall hangings.

Use a laundry hamper with a lid

  • A hamper with a lid and that is collapsible will help keep your dirty laundry out of sight and save floor space.

Rotate your seasonal wardrobe

  • Keep only the in-season clothes in your wardrobe and drawers.

  • Keep off-season clothes in vacuum-sealed bags under your bed or on top of your wardrobe (if it’s not built in).

Make your bed comfy

  • Invest in a good mattress topper. We know uni beds are often thin and uncomfortable, so get yourself the best mattress topper possible!

Use all your space

  • Hang organisers on wardrobe/bedroom door for your shoes, accessories and toiletries.

  • If you have no drawer space, buy some cheap hangers to save your clothes from being screwed up in the bottom of the wardrobe.

  • Get some storage boxes that fit in the small spaces to ensure you are maximising your uni room space.

Add greenery

  • Use low-maintenance or fake plants to add life and colour to your room without it taking up too much space.

Keep it minimalist

  • Reconsider what is in your room! Did you bring stuff from home just because you wanted it there? Only keep essentials and items you’ll use daily in your room.

  • Declutter regularly. It’s no secret that uni rooms are small, so make sure you get rid of stuff you no longer use or need to maintain a clean and spacious feel.

These tips help create a comfortable, organized, and personal uni room, even in the limited spaces common in UK accommodations!
